Agspec, the multi-national supplier of agricultural inputs, is celebrating a decade in business. From humble beginnings with just two or three staff and only one distributor, the company now employs around 70 highly skilled personnel in offices in Australia, Vietnam, Indonesia, The Philippines, Thailand and Singapore. Agspec also has key partners in Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia and New Zealand.
One of Agspec’s founding directors, Andrew Glynn, says the company aimed high from the outset, and embarked on a steep but incredibly successful learning curve.
“Many people may not realise that we set up shop in Asia first in 2003, and rolled out in Australia a year later; from the very beginning, we had the idea of being in multiple countries, aiming to really understand the grass roots agronomy and horticulture throughout the Asia-Pacific Region,” he says. “Building our expertise and the distribution footprint has been an essential part of growth, and we’ve continually improved our market knowledge, and the scientific knowledge of crops throughout the region, in order to deliver products with unique solutions to growers”.
Agspec’s General manager for Australia, Jonathon Lillecrapp, has been instrumental in developing the company’s quality product range and exceptional support team over the 10-year period.
“Selecting the right suppliers has been critical to Agspec’s success, and every product we sell has to be high quality. It’s important to us that farmers can trust the Agspec brand,” he says.
In a move which signals substantial confidence in the domestic and global agricultural sector, Agspec Australia has recently launched its own line of specialty EDTA chelated trace element fertilisers under the brand RapiSol®.
“It made sense to use our knowledge and in-house expertise to develop a high-quality range of tailor-made products ourselves. Coupled with our direct distribution strategy targeting key countries in the region, this represents considerable expansion and strengthening of the company”, says Mr Glynn. “We’re approaching the next decade with that same optimism and anticipation we had in the beginning, and we are confident of achieving continued success.
